OTOH, at least it's not an inflected language, in which you have to learn how to decline nouns, etc.. nor does it a**ign "gender" to inanimate objects, which to me is pointless if not idiotic.
All too true. I feel sorry for foreigners who learn this mutt of a language; there's no consistency, and more exceptions to the "rules" than rules. This is mostly because it was originally a Germanic language, but gained a lot of Latin influence.
